Image Capturing from HDMI Devices Using DVI2USB
Image Capturing from HDMI Devices Using DVI2USB
HDMI is a popular interface in many PC and CE systems delivering video and audio. It is important to have reliable equipment to perform HDMI video capture. Such image capturing solutions are intensively applied in multiple fields of education, medicine, science, and engineering and will play there a significant role in future.
High Resolution Capturing
The video quality delivered by HDMI devices is much better in comparison with its analog counterparts. HDMI is now adopted by the manufacturers of digital still cameras, digital video cameras, and portable media players. HDMI standard is already supported by a broad product range: from HDTVs and Blu-ray Disc players to gaming systems, multimedia PCs, etc. In case the images are not HDCP-protected they can be captured from all these devices using an HDMI capture device – Epiphan’s DVI2USB. This frame grabber is capable of capturing images and video with resolution of up to 1920×1200 and rates up to 60 frames per second. You can easily connect DVI2USB to any HDMI device using HDMI to DVI cable. After connection this external HDMI capture card will be identified as a high resolution camera. This frame grabber can be easily integrated into custom solutions towards meeting the needs of specific applications. During capturing video and images you can use third-party software for video editing. HDMI easily carries full 1080p video and multichannel audio. Capturing images with DVI2USB you will take advantage of its lossless capabilities and obtain clear high-resolution data.
Additional Functionalities for Successful Image Capture
HDMI allows sending high-definition video and multichannel audio over a single cable. However the advantages provided by this interface are not limited to this capability. HDMI ensures perfect connection between high-resolution components including game consoles, Xbox 360 , PlayStation 3, and HDMI-equipped high-definition TVs. HD signals are not compressed during transmission and there is no degradation in signal quality. Solutions used to capture HDMI output should conform to strict requirements concerning image quality. Images and video grabbed from HDMI devices using DVI2USB are of authentic quality due to its perfect capture capabilities. You can use free Epiphan’s software to me capture process more comfortable. It will be possible to schedule video recording or image capture, set time intervals for capture or broadcast video to viewers wherever they are.
Frame grabber for Different Standards
At the present time the number of products supporting HDMI standard drastically increases. In a short time HDMI will have 100 percent adoption among manufacturers in many categories. Every year new HDMI devices producing high-definition content will appear on the market. Whatever DVI, VGA or HDMI-based equipment is used, this HDMI capture device provides unmatched performance. Epiphan’s DVI2USB allows you to perform high resolution image and video capture for all your needs.

@jeromyjohn02 two clips I saw demo this mod, and it should work like a charm. but question remains, do you get two signals for video out, conflicting?! Drive two displays?!? At the same time? doubtful, but the digital optical becomes an option once again!! YEAH!
August 19th, 2010 at 6:49 am
@samater16 HDMI carries audio, that’s why. however, if the pass thru is not detecting 6 channels to your stereo, it’s not as useful as optical from the unit itself (360), I’d also advise using a shim instead of any tape, you know how sticky tape is once you take it off?!?

Already seen a video about removing the casing around the optical dongle cable out, My AV cable had no optical out, and there’s nothing around like the item you show (near me), The location of the HDMI is surely convenient only for them, making the board addition of it, however, not for choosing a way to get signals out in reality. MS has some damn fine engineering staff! TOPS!

will it get any defect or something bad if we crack it? will it loose sometimes?
August 19th, 2010 at 8:05 am
if its to hard to crack it open what do i do ?
August 19th, 2010 at 8:45 am
@thecomptutorialstv The monitor has a source button, when you press it, the monitor will switch from vga to dvi and the other way around.
August 19th, 2010 at 9:44 am
ok you said that the HDMI brings the sound while the DVI is not…what about the HDMI-VGA is it able to bring the sounds or I will have to do the same way like what you’ve done ?
August 19th, 2010 at 10:08 am
sweeter than fucking yoohoo. nice hack. i was sitting here for like 2 hours trying to figure out what cables i was going to need, after buying an hdmi to dvi, not thinking it didnt carry audio. popped the cover off the audio/video cable just like in the vid, and hooked it up to 2 external speakers. great vid man. SUBBED.
August 19th, 2010 at 10:51 am
@RealRacer69 it still works, it just a fuckin bitch to get off though… i cut myself, bled everywhere hahaha eventually got it off, works exactly the same
August 19th, 2010 at 10:57 am
how do you switch between your computer connected to the monitor through the vga….do you just turn of the xbox and then computer screen pops up?
August 19th, 2010 at 11:33 am

Ok so I have a new XBOX 360 elite where the HDMI out of the xbox goes to HDMI on my monitor. When I plug in my modified viedo cable box (the one that you break into) the video cuts out. I assume this is does not work while your does is because DVI does not carry audio while HDMI does. Any suggestion on how to make it work? I have a monitor without external speakers, yet I want to use HDMI so my laptop can connect to the monitor using VGA cables
August 19th, 2010 at 1:08 pm
is the method 2 with breaking the case of AV cable working in the xbox 360 slim?
