I got this item to be able to play (720p) video on my PC on my HDTV and to use the HDTV as a second monitor. Unfortunately even with the latest drivers available on 3/16/2010 from DisplayLink and Cables Unlimited, I could still only get very choppy (720p) video to play on the HDTV (I tried changing the wireless channel and all possible settings for the multiple monitors, e.g. cloned, extend display, display only etc). TV and PC are about 20 feet apart but it appears that this item only works well if the two USB adapters have direct line of sight: the connection worsens when I sit down on the couch (which happens to be in between the PC and the TV). Additionally, the DisplayLink software (the display driver for the device) crashes Windows Explorer (on Windows 7) whenever I browse my “Videos” folder. This feels like a dated beta version of a product with limited usability (line of sight in an era where we have true wireless technology available).

I purchased this product primarily so I could wirelessly surf the web and view photos with others during gatherings on my flat panel. The idea was to avoid the usual set-up and prevent trampling over cables across the room. Unfortunately, the Cables Unlimited Wireless USB to HDMI and VGA Adapter with Audio did not perform as billed. According to the makers of this product, wireless connectivity should be good for up to 30 feet without problems. However, this is was not the case. I lost wireless connectivity on and off the whole time I tried using it. Also, you may notice a lag between the audio and video signal, which I found very disconcerting. Both of these issues are addressed in the owner’s manual that is included in the software. But, the troubleshooting exercises suggested did not help-I tried everything. Even positioning my laptop no more than 12 feet away with a clear line of sight did not improve the signal. It is possible electrical interference that I am not aware of may have affected the reception in my case. The video and audio signal quality was fine (when i could get ‘em). I would not recommend this product.

when playing a movie it only works for about 10 min, then cuts out, then restarts without sound or very choppy video.tried on 3 different computers and 2 different tv’s-same result. works fine when you’re just streaming your desktop and using programs, but when trying to play a movie it only works for a little while; didn’t even try a 720p stream since the 480i stream didn’t work

I ordered this to be able to play videos from my Windows XP computer to my Samsung HDTV. The video was very choppy even at lower resolutions. I couldn’t watch more than 15-20 minutes without the device dropping connection or hanging the whole system. Both the transmitter and receiver also would get very hot. The computer and TV are only about 10 feet apart. I returned this device and went with a video card with HDMI support and a long HDMI cable.

Our firm just added a second conference room. When we got a quote from the maintenance group for wiring to connect the display for $1,400. Our IT person came up with the idea of using this product.
We bought it and set it up and it works a treat. It is now much easier for Presenters in the conference room to pass control of the presentation from one laptop to another. The setup took 10 mins and the quality is indistinguishable from the wired setup we have next door. We downloaded the latest drivers from the website and have really found no limitations to date.
It also has a cool factor – clients that come in are very impressed when the presenter moves their laptop around and they see that it has no wires attached.
