This is the adapter you want for your iBook G4. It’s mini-VGA to Video, NOT mini-DVI to Video. I’ve used it to watch on my TV the many videos I have on my iBook G4. Also thanks to this I can watch my PAL DVDs on my TV. I think it’s a really useful accessory. I think it’s already discontinued, so better get it before it becomes very expensive.

Review by Jude Giampaolo for Apple Video Adapter – Mini-VGA to TV S-Video and Composite Video

I have used this Apple video adaptor with my iBook about a dozen times with two different televisions and it has worked flawlessly. For both DVD playback and presenting slide shows (from pictures in iPhoto) it has produce clear and crisp video. With both of the TVs I only had the opportunity to use composite video rather than the s-video connector so the results may differ when using that interface. The only negative for me was the form factor. While it is of a convenient size for packing with a laptop for travel, the relatively large weight at the and of a short cable made positioning of the adaptor awkward without using additional video cable between the television and the computer.

This is perfect for those times when you want to rent a movie from netflix online and watch it on the TV, show a slideshow on TV, or watch a show online (ABC, NBC, etc.) and also be able to watch it from the TV. Price is very reasonable.

Review by William B. Starr for Apple Video Adapter – Mini-VGA to TV S-Video and Composite Video
Rating:
This adapter works fine for macbooks and other Apple laptops introduced before January 2009, but for the models introduced after that, it simply doesn’t work. This is explicit in the Apple Store listing for the item but does not seem to have been listed here on Amazon. I purchased the adapter and now have to return it. It worked fine with my old Powerbook G4, but I want to view on my television Netflix ‘watch it now’ movies playing on my computer. The Netflix online viewer does not work on non-Intel macs like my powerbook.

Make sure that this is the adapter you need before you buy, as apple has about 10 diffrent adapters that do the same thing. This one is for old school power pc G5 imacs. It works as you would expect (just plug it up), however as soon as you plug it in, your display settings on the computer will change to some crazy setting, rendering your mac worthless for trying to navigate. I did notice a small amount of 60hz flicker on the tv, but it is nonexistent while watching video media on the tv. Oh, the tv picture quality is pretty good on my plasma, as good as the file your pulling from. But know that you will have no audio. All audio still comes through the computer, so you’ll need a mini-jack to RCA adapter from radio shack if you want audio through the tv.
